It is found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand in moist lowland forests, grass or bamboo up to 2,100 m altitude. This 12 cm long babbler has a rufous crown, grey supercilium, brown upperparts and pale buff underparts. the juvenile has a paler crown and underparts.
